Push Back Racking System
Push Back Racking is a high-density pallet storage system designed to maximize warehouse space utilization while maintaining efficient pallet handling.
The system operates on a gravity-assisted rolling cart or inclined rail mechanism, allowing pallets to be stored several positions deep on each lane. When a pallet is loaded, it pushes the previous pallet backward. During unloading, pallets automatically move forward to the picking face by gravity.
Compared with standard selective pallet racking, Push Back Racking significantly reduces aisle requirements and increases storage density, making it an ideal solution for warehouses handling large quantities of palletized products with medium SKU variety.
Push Back Racking is widely used in distribution centers, cold storage warehouses, food & beverage facilities, manufacturing plants, and logistics operations requiring high-density storage with fast pallet access.
It is especially optimized for cold storage environments, maximizing dense storage volumes to significantly cut expensive refrigerated energy expenses.
System Structure & Configuration
Our Push Back Racking systems are engineered with inclined rails and nested carts that allow pallets to be stored multiple positions deep while remaining independently accessible from the front aisle.
Unlike Drive-In Racking, forklifts do not enter the rack structure, which improves operational safety and reduces rack damage caused by forklift impact.
Depending on warehouse layout and operational requirements, Push Back systems can typically store pallets 2 to 6 deep per lane.
The system provides excellent space efficiency while maintaining higher selectivity and faster loading/unloading performance compared with many compact storage.

Inventory Management
Push Back Racking primarily supports:
LIFO (Last-In, First-Out)
Since pallets are loaded and unloaded from the same aisle, the last pallet loaded becomes the first pallet retrieved.
This system is ideal for warehouses storing bulk pallet quantities with moderate SKU rotation.

Push Back Racking FAQ
What is Push Back Racking?
Push Back Racking is a gravity-fed high-density pallet storage system where pallets are stored on inclined rails or carts several positions deep.
What are the advantages of Push Back Racking?
Push Back systems increase storage density, reduce aisle space, improve pallet handling efficiency, and minimize forklift travel time.
How deep can Push Back Racking be?
Most Push Back systems are designed for 2 to 6 pallets deep per lane, depending on warehouse layout and pallet weight.
Is Push Back Racking suitable for cold storage?
Yes. Push Back Racking is widely used in cold storage warehouses because it maximizes storage density while improving operational efficiency in temperature-controlled environments.
What inventory system does Push Back Racking support?
Push Back Racking mainly supports LIFO inventory management because loading and unloading occur from the same aisle.
