Double Deep Pallet Racking
Double Deep Pallet Racking is a high-density warehouse storage system developed from standard selective pallet racking. By storing pallets two positions deep instead of one, the system increases storage capacity while reducing the number of working aisles required.
This storage layout offers a practical balance between storage density and pallet accessibility, making it a popular solution for warehouses looking to improve space utilization without moving to fully compact storage systems like Drive-In Racking.
Double Deep Racking is commonly used in distribution centers, manufacturing warehouses, cold storage facilities, and logistics operations handling medium to large pallet volumes.
Configuration & Flexibility
Our Double Deep Pallet Racking systems are configured with two rows of racks installed back-to-back, allowing pallets to be stored in double-depth positions.
The front pallet is accessed directly, while the rear pallet is handled using specialized reach trucks or double-deep forklifts equipped with telescopic forks.
Compared with standard selective pallet racking, Double Deep systems can increase storage capacity by approximately 30%–40% while maintaining relatively high picking efficiency.
The system is suitable for warehouses with moderate SKU variety and larger quantities of palletized goods per SKU.

Double Deep Pallet Racking – FAQ
What is double deep pallet racking used for?
Double Deep Pallet Racking is used in warehouses that require higher storage density than standard selective racking while still maintaining relatively efficient pallet access. It is commonly used for medium and large-volume pallet storage operations.
What is the difference between double deep and selective pallet racking?
Selective pallet racking stores pallets one position deep with direct access to every pallet, while double deep racking stores pallets two positions deep to reduce aisle space and increase storage capacity.
How much storage capacity can double deep racking increase?
Compared with standard selective pallet racking, Double Deep systems can increase warehouse storage capacity by approximately 30%–40%, depending on warehouse layout and rack height.
What forklifts are required for double deep pallet racking?
Double Deep Racking requires specialized reach trucks or forklifts equipped with telescopic forks to safely access the rear pallet positions.
Is double deep racking suitable for FIFO inventory management?
Double Deep systems are mainly designed for LIFO inventory handling because the front pallet must usually be removed before accessing the rear pallet. However, FIFO operation may be possible in specific warehouse layouts.
